The Cause of God's Face!

This past Sunday night, April 26, I picked up in our study of Daniel 9 on the prayer of Daniel recorded for us in chapter nine, verses 3-19.

Over the previous weeks, I've ministered various thoughts regarding his prayer, that is powerful and personal in regards to his love for God and concern for his people the Jews.

Daniel chapter nine and verse 16 and 17 reads, “O Lord, according to all thy righteousness, I beseech thee, let thine anger and thy fury be turned away from thy city Jerusalem, thy holy mountain: because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and thy people are become a reproach to all that are about us. Now therefore, O our God, hear the prayer of thy servant, and his supplications, and cause thy face to shine upon thy sanctuary that is desolate, for the Lord's sake.”

The phrase "cause Thy face to shine upon…" is a request from Daniel to His God, for favor. How important is the desire to have God's favor on our lives!

To desire the favor of God, three needs are expressed:
(1) The need for acceptance;
(2) The need for approval;
(3) The need for attention.

In the three needs mentioned above, I gave the reasons why they are expressions of our need in regards to having the favor of God in our life.

Let me ask you this questions?

Whose attention is better to have? God’s or man’s!

Of course, God's. I want to have God's attention on my life.

This was Daniel’s plea in Daniel 9:17, “Now therefore, O our God, hear the prayer of thy servant, and his supplications, and give me Your attention….”

Daniel knew that if he could have the “favor of God” that no matter what lay ahead, with God’s favor it would be bearable.

The “favor of God” would not only make circumstances “bearable” but the favor of God would make things “better.”

We studied the phrase, "cause thy face to shine upon thy sanctuary that is desolate, for the Lord's sake.”

In this particular phrase, we're given the place Daniel sought for God's favor, the condition why he was seeking for God's favor and the reason why Daniel wanted God's favor.

Having God's favor may be experienced in the material blessings of life, but more than world of the seen, it's the deep settled peace of knowing His joy, peace and presence that it is an abiding anchor in my heart.

Until my next blog confabulation….God bless!
