THE CHARACTER OF GOD / RESTORING THE SHIELDS OF GOLD
This past Sunday was a great day of worship.
I preached from Daniel 9 verses one through four on the subject, "The Prayer of Daniel: The Character of God." In the prayer of Daniel he mentioned 8 characteristics of God. It's an amazing prayer of a great man of God. He had lived in exile for all of his adult life and now in his early 80's he's soon to see the return of his people to their homeland and he's seeking the face of the Lord for them in light of the change that is to soon take place.
In this powerful and personal prayer, reflected on 8 characteristics of God.
They each reveal an aspect of God's power and desire to personal to each of us. I praise the Lord for God's way of revealing Himself to us in and through the power of His Word!
Sunday night, our associate pastor, Bill Mayo preached a timely message from the Word of God in 2 Chronicles 12:1-16 on "Restoring the Shields of Gold." He drew from the true life story of King Solomon and his son Rehoboam with the shields of gold King Solomon had made earlier during his reign but they were stolen under the monarchy of Rehoboam and he replaced them with shields of brass.
Bro. Mayo likened this "shields of gold" to our worship unto God. He drew from the unfortunate and sad dilemma that like as Rehoboam had substituted gold for brass, we often substitute our authentic worship (shields of gold) with form and tradition (shields of brass) and lose sight of the reality of an authentic move of God's Spirit and presence in our lives.
It was truly a timely Word from God to draw us to examine our hearts regarding our attitude of worship to the Lord.
God blessed in a great way and I praise God for the truth and encouragement that His Word gives to our lives.
Until my next blog confabulation….God bless!
